Synapses of J cell 1

I read “Synapses of J cell 1”  on “Choose a cell board”. What’s that?

Ciao
Mario

Mario, I think we’re going back to J cell 1 to map the cells that connect to J Cell 1 by synapse.

I read about this yesterday on the eyewire blog

Exactly, as the blog indicates we are tracing dendrites (neurites) which potentially belong to SAC’s connecting to J Cell 1 which we traced earlier. It’s these connections which might lead to new insights in their currently ongoing research.

"We want to know if that upward signal is coming from Starburst branches that also only point in one particular direction."

What I’m interested in is understanding the current overview we are given:

- Which are the synapses which connect to J cell 1?
- Where is J cell 1?
- The black rendered branches, what are they? (Perhaps branches being followed which weren’t SAC branches after all?)
- The current green branches, are they connected, or can they be from different cells?

Yes, it would be great to have more details about the overview :-)

Also, I was thinking, would’nt it be great to start naming the cells with names? I created a thread for it… check it out!

@whatthecode great questions!

- the synapses at the end of the branches connect to J Cell #1
- We are currently unable to display J Cell #1 due to technological limitations
- the black branches are those that connect to J Cell but that do not come from Starburst cells. When we change the color to black it tells the program not to continue tracing that branch.
- the branches can come from different cells.  See this update we just posted on FB: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=520925327927935&set=a.378655502154919.86023.378553375498465&type=1&theater&notif_t=like

We’ll get that up on the blog.

@frabuleuse some of the prizes in the upcoming competition will be rights to name cells and synapses!

Actually, the synapses aren’t necessarily at the ends of the branches.  Most are in the middle at one of the bulbous points.
