Safari temporarily unsupported

Hi fellow EyeWirers,

As many of you know I recently made a large code overhaul to speed up the 2d view. At the moment this code is not working in Safari – I’m working to fix this, but for the time being please try using Firefox or Chrome.

Sorry for the inconvenience

Mark, you rock. FYI I find your new code slower (on a mac) the way it draws the grid first…

Duly noted; I think I’m going to have to look into changing the loading behavior based on bandwidth. I’m fairly certain the current scheme behaves significantly better on slower connections, but old loading worked somewhat faster on fast connections.

Also, thanks  We’re gonna make this site awesome.

I don’t mind waiting, Mark.
FYI my Safari’s working great and my FireFox is only displaying 2D and not allowing any clicking…

I don’t seem to get any image with Firefox or Safari on my Mac once I log in. Said I should be seeing a starburst amacrine but all I saw was 2 little green boxes that went away. Tried the tutorial and was able to see the cube on the left but nothing displayed on the right when I proceeded into the tutorial.

@blissdish that’s not what I was expecting! I will try to figure out what’s going on with Firefox. The Safari related issues I believe are mostly plaguing older versions of the browser, particularly around the ~5.1.3 version.

@ksowinski When you were doing the tutorial, were you able to see the grayscale images of neuronal tissue on the right hand side, or was it completely dark? Did this issue appear when you first started the tutorial, or was it later in?

If you don’t mind, you might try running the benchmark on this site and copy+pasting the result in this thread.

Hey, Mark, I haven’t been able to play for a week or so… crashing Safari and FireFox on four different Macs…or endless rainbow cursor if not quitting unexpectedly

Firefox 14, Safari 6… still causing both to go rainbow cursor and hang     :- (

Mark, here’s a little more info… I seem to be able to map one cube, but the browser becomes unresponsive after I submit and hit “Proceed”

Workin on it, sorry @blissdish. Hopefully either late tonight or early tomorrow.

Thanks, Mark, appreciate your attention
… apparently many are NOT affected, I’m getting smoked in the neurOlympics   ;- )

ooh! ooh! just hit Proceed in FireFox and no rainbow cursor! thx…

darn, spoke too soon… as soon as I tried to change slice, got FireFox not responding   :- (

Hey @blissdish

I pushed yet another revision – still not sure if this will help with your issues (but I’m crossing my fingers). Make sure you try refreshing the page when you visit to ensure you have the latest code.

If things are still crashing:

Are you able to use the chat feature at all (can you type a message, send it, and have it show up)?
Does it crash regardless of whether eyewire is muted or not? (speaker icon at the bottom right of the page)

Thanks & sorry for the trouble.

Hey, Mark… four cubes in FireFox and no issues! Thank you thank you… got a lot of ground to make up!

Hey @blissdish. Glad you are able to play. I see you are online at the moment but you aren’t able to chat. If you don’t mind I’d love to have you help me resolve this – it’d be great to have you in the chat room

Can you go here:
http://www.websocket.org/echo.html

check the “Use secure WebSocket (TLS)” box, and try connecting. Does it connect successfully?

Thanks, I’ll try, but I am already at risk playing @work :-)    No issue today, whatever you did seems to have fixed it… was it just because I’m on Mac? Others were racking up points…

successful in FireFox, trying Safari… worked too

Hey I’m playing eyewire at work too!

Have you logged in via the homepage lately? Or do you log in from eyewire.org/login.php? If the latter, can you try signing out & signing back in via the homepage?
