Naming Cells?

Hey all!

so we started having J cell 1, and J cell 2, now we have SAC1, and inputs to J cell 1…

As lovely as these names are, I think it would be nice to baptise the cells we work on!

We could all agree on a naming system, what do you think?

Ideas for names: names of neuroscience pioneers, names of flowers, names of winds, inuit names for snow, names of superheroes?

I am leaning towards neuroscience pioneers.

Yeah I thought it would be cool to!!

I found this page for inspiration:

As I am not a neuroscientist I have little ideas here… Who is your neuroscience superhero?

There was a great “What if” on xkcd recently.  If you look about halfway down the page, you’ll see.

Using only pronounceable letter combinations, how long would names have to be to give each star in the universe a unique one word name?

Basically, giving out unique names to neurons is sort of like giving out unique names to stars.  There are a lot of them!  That having been said, we don’t quite have that problem… yet…

yes Matt, but you said it, the neurons we explore are special, because they are the first ones to be explored by an online game!

So really naming them would be nice no?

But ok, not much comments on this so I think I might be the only one in favor

Hmmm I personally would love to see these cells get named by the EyeWire community :)
