I like that what I am doing is helping and think that great science can come of this ,…especially when the brain is charted…but don’t you think it would go faster and people would be happier to do it if there were an incentive…how about a reward for all the good work we are doing? (doesn’t necesarrily have to be a nickle a cube.)
It might take me a bit to dig up, but there have been some studies which show that a lot of people are actually disincentivized as soon as money enters the picture. Pre-money, they are doing something which they enjoy that is helpful to the world in general or someone else in particular. After money, they look at it as a value proposition and decide that the amount that they are getting isn’t enough so they quit. Human psychology has quite a few intricacies, especially when it comes to money.
That’s not to say that we won’t incorporate other incentive structures. I think for these sorts of activities, rep, karma or other reputation based incentives work much better.
