How soon will AI overtake humans in tracing?

What are the current estimates for computers to beat amateurs, and then experts in mapping neurons? Surely once this happens we will produce data exponentially faster and it will just be a matter of computer power.

Hi overk1ll,

I don’t have a time estimate however, sometime in the future we hope that an AI would be able to do this. In order to trace larger datasets (ie. a whole brain) we would need an AI to be able to trace successfully. Right now, we are still in the beginning stages and need players to help train the AI by tracing. If you’d like to learn more about the AI, I have some resources below that can explain things further for you:

There is another user who is interested in the AI and he posted an interesting video in the science section of the forums here: http://forum.eyewire.org/discussion/659/what-the-brain-says-about-machine-intelligence#Item_1

Hope that helps!
