Crowd Sourcing 101

Ok,  it is crowdsourcing 101 - if you ask for more players you have to be prepared for them when they show up.
Ask the folks at Foldit
It is very discouraging as a player to not be able to get into the site because the devs were not prepared for the crowd they advertised that they wanted

Just sayin

i agree to a point, but the internet and technology can work in unpredictable ways. at the grand opening weekend of new club or restaurant, there can be a huge waiting list or a line out the door, but people sort of expect that. it’s kind of the same thing, except we get an error instead of the equivalent of a floor collapsing if all 2,000 people wanted to come visit the new spot for opening day and the host/bouncer just let them all in anyway.

plus, from what i read, they had a power outage at mit that was out of their control. that couldn’t have possibly helped the situation very much

@jamiexq sorry you had trouble accessing the site.  We’re working on making sure that doesn’t happen again.

The project presumably has a budget. Until you know you are going to need them, buying a bunch of servers and bandwidth is a waste of funds that could be used in other areas. It was, after all, the day after they launched, so cut them some slack.
