Could there be a consultation feature?

I think all of us that are mapping the neurons (I might be using the wrong jargon there. I’m not a neurologist, I just like video games and helping people) have come upon the issue of an iffy connection, a time when mapping where you’re unsure if a connection you just made was legitimate or not. If there could be a consultation feature, where the users would be able to bring in another player, there might be less wrong connections and it would probably improve the community of players here, too.

This would be massively helpful.
I faced a situation like this a few times, and rather than do guesswork or click “check my work” when I feel it is incomplete, consulting with someone else would be much more desirable.

@Nidal it sounds like you’re still in the training section.  After you finish the tutorial you’ll no longer be able to check your work the same way (you will start getting points though, and those serve as feedback).

@devilwaydown  I do really like the idea of being able to ask another user for an opinion/help on tricky areas.  Some users have been taking screen shots or videos of troublesome spots and then posting them in the forum, and asking for opinions.  This doesn’t allow for instant feedback, but it does help you figure out what to do next time.

One thing to keep in mind is that (for the sake of the science) we are trying to keep each of your opinions as independent as possible.  i.e. One vote is one person’s opinion.  If we allowed more than one person to do a piece at the same time, it would probably introduce biases which we can’t really control for.

All that having been said, we are working on coming up with more ways to give you guys feedback so that you can (hopefully) improve.  We still aren’t sure what form that feedback will take, but we are open to suggestions!

One more note, and take this with a grain of salt, but in general, the Eyewire community is missing more branches than it is making mistakes with merging two things that don’t belong.  Also, the tools that we have for cleaning up issues are weighted toward fixing things that are merged rather than finding things that were missed.  That’s not to say that you should go around connecting everything, but if you think two things should be connected, but aren’t sure, you should ere on the side of connecting them.

Hope this helps!
