As a player, I want to be able to mark slices to come back to and have an easy way to jump to them. I would use this for branch points where I follow one path but want to go back to another. I have a fairly slow computer and navigating up/down slices is slow for bulk navigation.
Furthermore, marking a specific point on the slice would be fancy, possibly with it being shown in the 3d view as a small sphere, though I do not see the utility of it. Just being able to draw on a slice for when I come back to it later. These drawings do not need to persist between sessions though that would be a potential improvement later.
To implement this, you might consider overlaying a transparent canvas for input, and when the time comes to draw, composite that with the main game canvas (though that might not work well with how your current system is, I don’t know). Another potential would be using an SVG document, which could potentially be much smaller when it comes time to persist the drawings, especially when considering compression.
Thanks for the suggestions octayn. We’ve talked a little about annotations and this is good feedback.
In terms of jumping around in the volume, there’s a feature which is already available, but isn’t that well documented yet. If you double click on the yellow plane in the 3d, you can then drag and drop it to the slice that you’d like to look at. Give it a try and let us know what you think.
Great! Definitely a time saver.
