Ultimately to get people involved and to keep people involved, there should be a badge system that people can display on Facebook. The more specific the badge, the more people will attribute value to it. By being displayed on Facebook, it will also invite other people in their social network to join and try to obtain these badges.
It would be tempting to put something like “JFGariepy has reached 1000 score”, because that would be easy. But what would really get people engaged is something like :
“JFGariepy has opened up branch 2593 of the J cell 0249634 in the retina, a finding that was corroborated by hhdelta and scientist74 on Sunday, April 17th 2013 at 13:15:15”.
“JFGariepy has completed the extremity of dendrite 825 of the cortical cell 0395832 in the motor cortex on Monday, January 19th, 2013 at 7:52:53”.
“JFGariepy has reached the Sniper accomplishment by locating small missing parts of at least 10 different neuronal branches of the cerebellum in less than 1 hour. 52 persons in the community have reached this accomplishment this year”.
If somehow there would be a way to eventually link to the 3D representations of the mentioned branches, that would be awesome.
