Ganglion Axons -> Thalamus -> cortex

Following up on a discussion in chat about the neural projections of ganglion cells like those mapped in Eyewire.

This image gallery shows some of the interesting attributes of thalamocortical (TC) cells, the ones that relay retinal ganglion cell info to cortex https://imgur.com/gallery/cF7bXSK and here you can see the morphology of several TCs https://imgur.com/gallery/vkSN9UD

We did an extensive dive into the structure of these cells while putting together the art for Neuroland. For example, in the Neural Forest scene, the yellow bundles of synapses in the trees look a lot like the actual synapses of ganglion cells to TCs.

In the mad hatter tea party scene, the large spiny cell they’re sitting at represents a cortical cell that projects back to the thalamus
